Tennis Lessons - 101609

Gurnee Park District offers several levels of adult instructional tennis programs; choose the program that fits your skill level. All classes are contracted through Midwest Tennis Programs, LLC. All classes are for participants 16 years of age and up.
Beg. Adv. Beg. (NTRP 1.0 - 1.9)
You have no (or quite limited) tennis experience and are still working on getting the ball over the net. You may be familiar with scoring, but not with basic positions and procedures of singles and doubles play.
Adv. Beg. - Int. (NTRP 2.0 - 3.0)
You have had some lessons but need on-court experience. You have obvious stroke weaknesses, but are beginning to feel comfortable with singles and doubles play.
Intermediate 1-2 (NTRP 3.1 - 3.4)
You can place shots with moderate success and can sustain a rally of slow pace but are not comfortable with all strokes and lack consistency in serving.
Intermediate 2-4 (NTRP 3.5 - 3.9)
You have dependable strokes on both forehand and backhand sides, have the ability to use a variety of shots including lobs, overheads and volleys, can place the first serve and force some errors. You are rarely out of place in a doubles game.

SKYHAWKS SPORTS

Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. Our programs are designed to give each child a positive introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love for an active, healthy lifestyle. Our patient and knowledgeable staff use a variety of skill-building games and activities to give each athlete a complete understanding and overview of the sport. BEGINNING GOLF CAMP

Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes by teaching proper technique to refine essential skills of the game. Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting, and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New at Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG utilizes a set of equipment designed for beginning golfers, including oversized plastic club heads and "mini tennis balls" to help build confidence and to have fun. Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs--all equipment is provided. We keep the instructor-to-camper ratio low, resulting in limited availability. These programs fill up quickly. All participants receive a T-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1. FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP

Skyhawks Flag Football is the perfect program for young athletes who want a complete introduction to "Americas Game" or for those who simply want to brush up on their skills in preparation for league play. Through our "skill of the day" activities, campers will learn skills on both sides of the ball including the core components of passing, catching, and de-flagging or defensive positioning all presented in a fun and positive environment. Skyhawks Flag Football is recommended for beginning to intermediate athletes. The week ends with the Skyhawks Super Bowl, giving participants a chance to showcase their skills on the gridiron! All participants receive a T-shirt, football, and player evaluation .The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes, and sunscreen.

MINI FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP

This Flag Football program was developed to give children a positive first step into athletics and football. The essentials of flag football are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our football games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. TINY-HAWK CAMP

The essentials of Soccer and Basketball are introduced in a fun and safe environment with lots of encouragement. Campers must be between 42 and 48 months of age and toilet trained in order to participate. Children will learn balance, body movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development through a series of sport-specific games tailored to their attention spans. MULTI-SPORT CAMP

Our multi-sport camp is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. For this program we combine Soccer, Basketball & Football into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, your child will walk away with knowledge of multiple sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and self-discipline. All participants receive a T-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, a lunch and two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes and sunscreen.

TRACK & FIELD CAMP

Skyhawks Track & Field was developed to introduce young athletes to this sport rich in tradition and history. These programs combine technical development and fundamental techniques with safety and a major focus on fun! Using special equipment, our staff teach exercises and drills that prepare athletes for a future in cross-country, track & field events, and distance running while inspiring a love for running and being active. The fundamentals of body positioning, stride, proper stretching, and cool-down techniques are covered in this unique program. SKYHAWKS TENNIS WITH QUICKSTART

Skyhawks Tennis with Quickstart is a new format to help kids ten and under learn and play tennis. To create a successful learning environment, we have made modifications to our traditional tennis program. The court is smaller and has shorter nets, the racquets are smaller, and the balls are foam. In addition to developing a love for tennis, athletes will learn the rules and etiquette that make tennis such an exciting game to play. All coaches are trained by USTA professionals. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1. Due to limited court space, these programs fill up quickly. All participants receive a T-shirt and merit award. This program helps students develop proper skills with age appropriate equipment and court sizes and is great fun for all ages. Midwest Tennis Programs has adapted this program to be extended to all age groups including adults. Please bring a tennis racket, gym shoes and water. All tennis balls and other equipment will be provided. Contracted through Midwest Tennis Programs, LLC. (CM)

Pee Wee/Parent Child (NTRP 1.0) - Introduction tennis for ages 3-6. Emphasis is on fun and development of coordination and motor skills in a supportive environment that are useful for participation in all sports

Beginner (NTRP 1.0-1.9) - This class is ideal for those first taking up the game. Instruction includes hand-eye coordination, racquet skills, stroke production with emphasis on ground strokes, serve, return and volleys. Court position, scoring and singles and doubles strategy are introduced.

Beginner-Advanced Beginner (NTRP 2.0-2.4) - This class is for those who have had basic instruction but need further review of fundamentals. Stroke development, footwork, strategy and match play are included in the instruction.
